Actually not a publicity for a Bal masque as this art nouveau beauty is putting up a poster for, but a publicity for Caby et Chardon capabilities as Stone lithographers in the 1890’s. Color lithography was relatively new which Jules Cheret had a great hand in, and the delicacy of the work on the stone is evident here in the shading techniques. Truly a wonderful piece of stone lithography. This is the only known copy I have ever seen in 30 years of collecting. Excellent on linen

Poster created by Belgian artist Pierre Alechinsky in 1984 for the Jazz Festival. Alechinsky (b. 1927) is a painter and printmaker associated with the CoBrA movement, noted for his gestural brushwork and improvisational approach to line and color. His work often reflects a spontaneous, rhythmic energy that pairs naturally with the spirit of jazz.
The 1984 Jazz Festival poster demonstrates this connection, with Alechinsky’s distinctive calligraphic style echoing the vitality of live performance. Festivals of this period often invited contemporary artists to design posters, highlighting the close relationship between modern art and music.
This edition was printed at Studio Paris in 1984 using serigraphy. It measures 20 × 32 in. (50.5 × 81.2 cm) and is preserved in excellent condition.
