    “The Beatles” Banner by Richard Avedon for Stern 1967 Beatles original printing

    $ 225

    THE BEATLES (BANNER) – RICHARD AVEDON – 1967 – Original 1967 Printing

    Original black-and-white Beatles banner poster created by Richard Avedon in 1967 during the height of the Sgt. Pepper era. Commissioned by The Beatles’ company NEMS, Avedon photographed John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr individually in London against a stark white backdrop, producing what would become one of the most iconic visual statements of the 1960s.

    The full Avedon series included four colorized psychedelic portraits and this striking black-and-white composite banner. The images were published internationally in early 1968 through The Daily Express (UK), LOOK Magazine (USA), and Stern (Germany). This example is from the original European Stern printing, produced by PPP Printers.

    Although thousands were printed at the peak of Beatlemania, relatively few survive in strong condition. Most were displayed with tape and later discarded. Authentic 1967 printings such as this are the only versions considered original first editions and have become important cultural artifacts, frequently featured in Pop Art, 1960s, and Rock & Roll exhibitions.

Part of the well-known “silhouette” campaign used internationally during the early 2000s, the design features a black dancing figure holding the distinctive white iPod and headphones set against a vivid brightly colored background. This graphic campaign became one of the most recognizable visual identities associated with Apple and the iPod during its rise in popularity.

    Printed for bus-stop and outdoor advertising displays, these posters were produced in large format on coated poster stock with highly saturated colors intended for high visibility in public spaces. The French-language version reads “10,000 chansons dans la poche. Mac ou PC,” referring to the iPod’s ability to store thousands of songs and its compatibility with both Mac and PC computers.

    The silhouette series appeared in several color variations including green, pink, yellow, and purple. Because these posters were originally produced for outdoor advertising displays, examples preserved in excellent condition are relatively scarce.

    Lithographic plate reproducing the poster design Buffoni by Leopoldo Metlicovitz, issued as part of the well-known Ricordi Portfolio. This series presented a selection of important poster designs printed by the Ricordi publishing house during the height of the Italian poster movement between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The portfolio gathered together small-format reproductions of these works and was distributed internationally in the early twentieth century.

    Casa Ricordi of Milan, originally a music publisher closely associated with the Italian opera world, developed a major lithographic printing workshop in the late nineteenth century. Through its printing department the firm produced posters for music, theatre, and commercial clients and became a central force in the development of the Italian poster. The artists working with Ricordi helped define the Italian version of Art Nouveau, often referred to as Stile Liberty.

    Leopoldo Metlicovitz (1868–1944) was one of the principal designers associated with Ricordi. His posters and illustrations are recognized for their elegant compositions and refined color work, and he contributed numerous designs for theatre, publishing, and advertising.

The ballet, written by Henri Cain and set to music by the celebrated composer Jules Massenet, was performed at the Théâtre de l’Opéra-Comique in Paris. Leloir’s lithograph was printed by Imp. • Citizen Kane Orson Welles (Quarto Potere) — 1960 - Italian re-release

    Citizen Kane Orson Welles (Quarto Potere) — 1960 – Italian re-release

    $ 2,000

    Quarto Potere (Citizen Kane) — Anonymous — 1958 – Orson Welles

    Original Italian 4-foglio poster for Quarto Potere, the Italian release title of Citizen Kane, directed by and starring Orson Welles, with Joseph Cotten, Dorothy Comingore, and Agnes Moorehead. Issued by Titanus for the Italian distribution of the film.

    Citizen Kane (1941) is widely regarded as one of the most important films ever made, celebrated for its groundbreaking narrative structure, deep-focus cinematography, and enduring influence on modern filmmaking. The Italian title Quarto Potere (“The Fourth Power”) reflects the film’s central theme—the power and influence of the press.

    This striking Italian design presents a bold, painterly interpretation of Charles Foster Kane in a political setting, reinforcing the film’s exploration of ambition, authority, and public image. Italian posters from this period are particularly admired for their distinctive artistic approach, often differing significantly from American designs.

    Printed in the large and imposing 4-foglio format, this poster was produced in limited quantities for theatrical display and was not intended to survive. As a result, examples of this size are scarce today.

    This 1958 Titanus issue is very rare, especially in such well-preserved condition, and is seldom encountered on the market.
