The artwork is by Bob Peak (1927–1992), a major American illustrator recognized for transforming the look of commercial graphics in the mid-20th century. Often called the “father of the modern movie poster,” Peak created iconic images for Apocalypse Now, Superman, and Star Trek, alongside important advertising and cultural commissions. His work for the World’s Fair reflects his bold graphic style at the height of his career.

Original 1964 poster for the New York World’s Fair, designed by American illustrator Bob Peak. The fair, held at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens from April 1964 through October 1965, became a landmark event of mid-century design and architecture, with the Unisphere as its central symbol. Original 1973 lithograph poster issued by the Foundation for American Dance for the Joffrey Ballet’s presentation of Parade, with costume and set designs by Pablo Picasso. The ballet was originally created in 1917 for Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, with music by Erik Satie and choreography by Léonide Massine. Revived by the Joffrey Ballet at New York’s City Center in 1973, this production marked one of the great intersections of modern art, music, and dance. Picasso’s imagery and the history of Parade make this poster an important document of 20th-century performing arts, celebrating the collaboration between visual art and the stage.

Each year, the Mairie de Paris commissioned a well-known French artist to design the official poster for the city’s Mois de la Photo (Month of Photography). In 1994, the artist selected was Hervé Di Rosa, a leading figure of the Figuration Libre movement known for his vibrant, cartoon-inspired visual language.
This original poster was created for the 1994 edition of Mois de la Photo and printed for the Ville de Paris. Di Rosa’s design reflects his distinctive, playful approach, combining bold color and form with a graphic energy that echoes contemporary street and pop culture. A small yet striking printer’s sample from around 1920, created to showcase the skill of Ancienne Établissements Gillot in four-color gravure, with final printing by C.L. Courtois. Signed by the renowned illustrator E. Vila, the composition captures two elegantly dressed women on a breezy seashore, one holding an early camera. In the distance, a small vintage automobile and a biplane evoke the modern spirit of the early 20th century.
Adding to its charm is a whimsical touch hidden in the title: the number “7” in Sept contains a caricature of a man holding a camera.
