La Suprême Épopée (1919) – Original French Film Poster by René Pichon
Original 1919 French stone-lithograph poster for La Suprême Épopée, directed by Henri Desfontaines and produced by Vandal & Delac / Le Film d’Art at the end of World War I. Artwork is attributed to René Pichon, with printing by Éditions Delac, Vandal (Paris). The design presents Marianne leading the French troops, an allegorical image celebrating national triumph and resilience in the immediate post-Armistice era.
The film, scored by composer Camille Erlanger, was conceived as a patriotic “national epic,” reflecting the mood of France in 1919. This poster, in the large French grande format, survives as a rare piece of cinematic and cultural history, notable for its scale, artistry, and subject. Preserved in excellent condition, professionally linen-backed.
