Mois de la Photo à Paris – Guillaume Corneille – 1990 – Original Serigraph on Linen
In 1990, Dutch artist Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo, known as Corneille (1922–2010), created this poster for Mois de la Photo à Paris, the city’s biennial photography festival held each November since 1980. Corneille was a co-founder of the influential CoBrA movement (1948–1951), which championed a bold, expressive, and experimental approach to art. His work is celebrated for its vivid colors, abstracted forms, and recurring motifs of birds, women, and landscapes.
This poster, printed in serigraph (silkscreen) by Seri Poinçon, Alençon, measures 16 x 24 inches (40 x 60 cm) and features Corneille’s signature style, incorporating a stylized blue bird and camera to reflect the festival’s photographic theme.

This World War I poster by Lucien Jonas was created for the Compagnie Algérienne to encourage subscriptions to an Emprunt, or war bond, supporting the French war effort. Jonas depicts a soldier of the Troupes Coloniales bidding farewell to his family before leaving for the front—an image meant to highlight both sacrifice and duty. These troops were recruited from France’s North African colonies and fought alongside the poilus (French infantrymen). Issued in Paris by Devambez, this is a strong and emotional example of Jonas’ wartime propaganda work, printed in 1917 at the height of the conflict.
