Original period color plate from Les Affiches Illustrees, published by G. Boudet in Paris in 1896, reproducing Eugene Grasset’s 1893 design for an exhibition of French decorative art at London’s Grafton Gallery. A young woman with flowing red hair gathers flowers in a stylized garden, surrounded by irises, trees, and sweeping ribbons of pale blue fabric. Bold black outlines and softly contrasting colors give the composition a stained-glass quality characteristic of Grasset’s Art Nouveau work.
