Banco di Roma – Emprunt, by Orth, 1920
An original 1920 Emprunt National (war loan) poster by Orth, issued for the Banco di Roma in Lyon. Created after the First World War, this campaign represented the sixth national loan, intended to raise funds for the reconstruction of France.
The lithograph presents two allegorical women. To the right, Marianne, symbol of the French Republic, holds her shield decorated with the French emblem. Beside her stands a crowned female figure, likely representing Italy or its regional heritage, holding a second shield evocative of Alpine or Savoy symbolism. Behind them, the imagery of builders at work and a farmer plowing evokes both the physical rebuilding of cities and the return to agricultural life. Together, the figures embody Franco-Italian cooperation in the postwar effort.
Printed in the standard 31 × 47 inch format, the poster has been professionally linen-backed and is preserved in excellent A condition, with bright colors and a strong overall presentation.

L’EMPRUNT DE LA PAIX — HENRI LEBASQUE — c.1920
Original French poster issued for the postwar reconstruction loan, L’Emprunt de la Paix, encouraging citizens to subscribe to bonds financing the rebuilding of France after the First World War. The composition by Henry Lebasque contrasts a peaceful domestic scene in the foreground with workers, construction activity, factories, and smoke rising from industrial plants in the background. The family scene with the mother and child symbolizes the future generations of France, while the rebuilding and industrial landscape represents national recovery and reconstruction.
Henry Lebasque was an established French painter associated with Post-Impressionism and closely connected to the circle of artists around Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard. Like a number of prominent artists of the period, he contributed designs for public campaigns following the war. Posters such as this were part of a broader national effort encouraging citizens to invest in government bonds to finance rebuilding and economic recovery.

An American, Frenchman and Englishman together with their respective flags flying and a golden Marianne holding up a golden wreat of Victory which by now was fast approaching after the intervention of American coming in to the war.
