1984 Grand Prix Automobile of Monaco P. Bérenguier

The 1984 Monaco Grand Prix was held on June 3 in heavy rain, making the narrow street circuit extremely difficult. Visibility was low, and many cars struggled to stay on track. Alain Prost, driving for McLaren, was leading when the race was stopped on lap 31 due to the worsening conditions. Ayrton Senna, in only his sixth Formula 1 race, was catching Prost quickly in his Toleman and appeared on the verge of passing him. Stefan Bellof, in a Tyrrell, was also closing the gap. The decision to stop the race was controversial, and because less than 75% was completed, only half points were awarded. Prost would later lose the championship to Niki Lauda by just 0.5 points. The race is widely seen as the moment Senna first showed his brilliance in Formula 1.
