$ 250Porteur d’Amphore, Maurice Desvallières (1862–1913) 1898
Original color lithograph by Maurice Desvallières, published in L’Estampe Moderne in 1898. The composition shows a young, muscular man in classical Roman or Greek dress carrying a large amphora through a richly detailed architectural interior filled with statues, columns, and patterned tile flooring — a vivid evocation of the grandeur of antiquity. Desvallières combines idealized strength and realism, capturing both the physical tension of the figure and the luminous setting surrounding him. Issued as part of the celebrated monthly portfolio L’Estampe Moderne (1897–99), printed by Champenois in Paris and distributed by Masson & Piazza. The sheet bears the embossed blindstamp “L’Estampe Moderne / E.M.” in the lower right margin and the artist’s printed signature within the image. Excellent example from the original issue with strong color and wide margins.
