    Spoleto, a historic town in Umbria, features medieval streets, the Romanesque Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and an ancient Roman theater. Often called the “green heart of Italy,” Umbria is known for its rolling landscapes, rich history, and cultural heritage.

    During the 1920s, the Italian State Railways promoted domestic travel through striking posters. These advertisements encouraged Italians and international visitors to explore the country’s scenic and historic sites by train.

    Cesare Simonetti, born in 1862, was well-known for his commercial art, particularly travel posters. His work appeared in various auctions, demonstrating his lasting influence on early 20th-century Italian design.     Poster Gregg Skis by Sascha Maurer, produced in the 1950s to promote the Gregg brand of skis. Gregg was an American manufacturer based in St. Paul, Minnesota, active in the mid-20th century, known for producing wooden skis and equipment as skiing grew in popularity in the United States.

    Sascha Maurer (1897–1961) was a German-born artist who emigrated to the United States and became recognized for his bold graphic posters. He created striking images for American railroads, airlines, and sporting goods companies, including ski equipment manufacturers such as Northland and Gregg. His posters are notable for their strong compositions and vivid color, capturing the energy of outdoor recreation during the postwar years.

    This example, Gregg Skis, is mounted on linen and preserved in excellent condition.

    Oberland Bernois – After Skiing Pleasure was created by Swiss artist Hans Falk in 1949 to promote winter holidays in the Bernese Oberland region. The design highlights the leisure side of skiing, encouraging visitors to enjoy the après-ski atmosphere as much as the slopes.

    The poster was printed by J.C. Müller AG, Zürich, using stone lithography, and measures 39.4 × 27.6 inches (100 × 70 cm). The text includes La Jungfrau, P.L.M., and Billets à Prix Réduits, highlighting discounted travel fares.
