    $ 225

    THE BEATLES (BANNER) – RICHARD AVEDON – 1967 – Original 1967 Printing

    Original black-and-white Beatles banner poster created by Richard Avedon in 1967 during the height of the Sgt. Pepper era. Commissioned by The Beatles’ company NEMS, Avedon photographed John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr individually in London against a stark white backdrop, producing what would become one of the most iconic visual statements of the 1960s.

    The full Avedon series included four colorized psychedelic portraits and this striking black-and-white composite banner. The images were published internationally in early 1968 through The Daily Express (UK), LOOK Magazine (USA), and Stern (Germany). This example is from the original European Stern printing, produced by PPP Printers.

    Although thousands were printed at the peak of Beatlemania, relatively few survive in strong condition. Most were displayed with tape and later discarded. Authentic 1967 printings such as this are the only versions considered original first editions and have become important cultural artifacts, frequently featured in Pop Art, 1960s, and Rock & Roll exhibitions.

    APPLE iPOD — SILHOUETTE ADVERTISING POSTER — c.2000–2007

    Original large-format advertising poster produced by Apple for the promotion of the iPod. Part of the well-known “silhouette” campaign used internationally during the early 2000s, the design features a black dancing figure holding the distinctive white iPod and headphones set against a vivid brightly colored background. This graphic campaign became one of the most recognizable visual identities associated with Apple and the iPod during its rise in popularity.

    Printed for bus-stop and outdoor advertising displays, these posters were produced in large format on coated poster stock with highly saturated colors intended for high visibility in public spaces. The French-language version reads “10,000 chansons dans la poche. Mac ou PC,” referring to the iPod’s ability to store thousands of songs and its compatibility with both Mac and PC computers.

    The silhouette series appeared in several color variations including green, pink, yellow, and purple. Because these posters were originally produced for outdoor advertising displays, examples preserved in excellent condition are relatively scarce.

  • Jane Avril by Toulouse Lautrec 1894 for Les Affiches Illustrees

    Jane Avril by Toulouse Lautrec 1894 for Les Affiches Illustrees

    $ 1,650

    JANE AVRIL – JARDIN DE PARIS — Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

    Original stone-lithograph plate printed circa 1896 at Imprimerie Chaix (Paris) for Les Affiches Illustrées. This reduced-format lithograph reproduces Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s famous poster of Jane Avril, one of Montmartre’s most celebrated dancers, created to advertise her performances at the Jardin de Paris.

    Jane Avril (1868–1943), a close friend and muse of Lautrec, became an icon of Parisian nightlife through her eccentric, serpentine style of dance. Lautrec’s posters of her are among his most enduring works, capturing both her elegance and her unconventional energy. In this design, Avril dominates the composition, her figure twisting in rhythm, while the bold curves and flat colors reflect Lautrec’s revolutionary approach to poster art.

    Les Affiches Illustrées (1896–1899) was among the first journals dedicated to poster art, issued in small runs for collectors. Produced at the Chaix atelier, each plate was a stone-lithograph reduction of an important affiche, printed on fine paper for subscribers. These editions gave collectors authentic examples of the finest Belle Époque posters in a smaller, more practical format than the large affiches pasted on Paris walls.

    IRIS — Adolfo Hohenstein

    Original stone-lithograph plate issued in 1899 at Imprimerie Chaix (Paris) for Les Maîtres de l’Affiche. This plate (no. 197) presents Adolfo Hohenstein’s celebrated poster for the Italian opera Iris, composed by Pietro Mascagni.

    Premiered in Rome in 1898, Iris quickly spread to the great opera houses of Europe, admired for Mascagni’s rich score and exotic subject matter. Hohenstein, often called the “father of Italian poster art,” created the striking visual campaign. His design for Iris blends Symbolist and Art Nouveau influences: a graceful female figure radiates light and mystery, surrounded by decorative motifs that suggest both the opera’s dramatic themes and its lush Orientalist setting.

    Les Maîtres de l’Affiche (1895–1900) was a prestigious subscription series directed by Jules Chéret, showcasing small-format original lithographs of the era’s most important posters. Printed at the Chaix atelier on fine wove paper and issued with the blindstamp, these plates brought the leading poster artists of Europe to collectors in a refined format.
