Title: Savoie France – Fêtes du centenaire Artist: Auriac Date: 1960 Printer: Société d’Exploitation Etablissements de La Vasselais, Paris Size: 27 x 39 inches
This poster image was used both for celebrating 100 years of Savoie Region and also exists with the title Megeve. You can see its summertime with flowers about but in the background is the famous Mont Blanc which stays white with snow through the whole summer.
The “célèbre clocher à bulbes” (famous onion-shaped bell tower) in the Savoie region of France refers to the distinct bulbous bell towers found in many churches in the region. These towers, also known as “clochers à bulbes”, are a hallmark of Baroque architecture introduced in the 17th and 18th centuries, especially under the influence of the Counter-Reformation.
These onion-shaped domes are particularly common in alpine regions, including Savoie, and are a reminder of the strong religious influence in the area. One of the most famous examples in Savoie is the bell tower of the Saint-Martin Church in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, though many other towns and villages in Savoie feature similar structures.

This original 1985 poster was created by Pegge Hopper for United Airlines to promote travel to Hawaii. Hopper is known for her stylized depictions of Hawaiian women and landscapes, often using simplified forms, strong outlines, and rich color harmonies that recall the work of Paul Gauguin in the South Pacific. The image reflects her distinctive interpretation of island life, emphasizing atmosphere, pattern, and the lush presence of tropical foliage.
Trained in design in California in the 1950s, Pegge Hopper later worked in Milan before settling in Hawaii, where the local environment became the central subject of her work. This airline commission belongs to the broader tradition of mid- to late-20th-century travel posters, combining commercial purpose with an artist’s personal vision of place. The poster is an offset lithograph, printed on paper and professionally mounted on linen, and survives in excellent condition.

Falcucci illustrates the Vaux de Cernay, with reference to the Château de Dampierre and the Abbey of Port-Royal, landmarks tied closely to the area’s cultural history. At the time, the Vallée was also known as a circuit for early automobile tours beginning at Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, making this a poster that intersects both tourism and motoring heritage.
