    SCALA — REVUE A POIVRE — JULES-ALEXANDRE GRUN — 1904

Original French cabaret poster for Scala – Revue a Poivre designed by Jules-Alexandre Grun for the Paris music hall La Scala. The lively composition reflects the theatrical atmosphere of the Paris cabaret and revue scene of the early twentieth century, with richly colored lithography and an energetic stage setting typical of Grun’s work.

Jules-Alexandre Grun (1868–1938) was one of the leading poster artists associated with Parisian cabarets and music halls, producing numerous posters for venues such as La Scala in the early 1900s. This design is generally dated to 1903–1904, and examples recorded in auction catalogues identify Charles Verneau, Paris as the printer. The poster has appeared in major poster auctions and is considered one of Grun’s well known music hall designs of the period.
