French Travel Posters: A Journey Through Time
Explore our extensive collection of French travel posters, featuring many from the iconic PLM (Paris Lyon Mediterranée) Railways.
• Chemin de Fer Legacy: Before 1900, France’s railway companies operated independently, each with its own station, like Gare de Lyon for eastern and southern routes.
• The PLM Era: Between the late 19th century and 1937, the PLM unified the networks, creating some of the most celebrated French travel posters.
• SNCF Standardization: In 1937, the SNCF standardized poster sizes (24×39 inches), maintaining their artistic appeal while fitting station and agency frames.
• Growing Collection: Our inventory is constantly expanding with new additions.

Tunis la blanche — Mosquée de Sidi Youssef was created for the Paris–Lyon–Méditerranée (PLM) railway to promote travel to North Africa. The scene captures the striking white architecture of the Mosque of Sidi Youssef in the heart of Tunis, its minaret rising above the surrounding buildings under a bright sky.
The poster invites travelers to reach Tunis in “36 heures de Marseille par mer” or “6 heures d’Antibes par avion,” highlighting the ease of connection from France. The travel season is given as “octobre–mai,” encouraging visitors to enjoy the city in the cooler months.
Printed by Affiches Moullot in Marseille–Paris using stone lithography, the work combines the clarity of early 20th-century travel advertising with a distinctive view of the medina.

Jacobs Ladder by Marc Chagall – 1977 Vintage Poster
In 1977, Marc Chagall (1887–1985), one of the most celebrated modernist artists of the 20th century, created Jacob’s Ladder as part of his long and prolific career that often drew on biblical narratives, dreamlike symbolism, and vivid color palettes. This poster was produced for an exhibition of Chagall’s posters at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Nice, France.
Printed in stone lithography by Imprimerie Mourlot, Paris — Chagall’s favored printer for much of his lithographic work — the poster reflects both the technical excellence and artistic vision characteristic of their collaborations. The composition presents Chagall’s interpretation of the biblical scene of Jacob’s dream, rendered with his signature floating figures, vibrant blues, and ethereal atmosphere.
